Another win!
Many of you will have seen in the local news media that the planning application for The Oddfellows Arms and the area behind it has been withdrawn. We are very pleased that this has occurred – it’s testament to the significant contribution of community support and volume of objections from so many people and organisations. It is, of course, likely that they may submit another application for some of the area they own but we hope that this will mean the pub and ACV site is made available to us to provide the vision we have held on to for the last few years.
Community support keeps us going
I was really pleased to catch up with Dr Luke Evans when he was meeting his local community in Morrisons last week. He was pleased to hear my update on the situation and reiterated his support for the project. He wrote to say he is “pleased to support the fantastic efforts of the ‘Save the Oddies’ team in trying to secure the future of this much loved local pub as a community facility. Empowering communities is really important, and I am happy to help achieve their goal. I know how important The Oddies is to those in the village and this is being clearly demonstrated by hard work of the team and their work to garner wider support which the project enjoys within the local community.”
We continue to have discussions with Cartwrights about buying the pub site and have been pleased to have some encouraging conversations with them. We look forward to sharing progress with you when we can!
We continue to work on developing the project, including ideas for a community shop, and are keen to hear from anyone who would like to be involved in the project or can offer their services to the group. We know that there is an army of willing volunteers waiting to get going on our community hub! Lovely to have local trades and professional services on hand to contribute.
Welcome to our new supporters!
We are still getting new people signing up to the project and pledging to buy shares so keep spreading the word! If you want to contribute to our ‘fighting fund’ you can do that via the GoFundMe page https://www.gofundme.com/f/to-reopen-the-oddfellows-higham-on-the-hill . You can contact the STOP group or pledge to buy shares via the tabs on this website or messaging us on the Facebook page – search for @OddfellowsHigham .
