It's been a while since we shared our news – I can only blame my day job, teaching A level students in several lockdowns then working on getting them good grades in the absence of exams! But summer approaches, and pressure has eased so its time to keep on keeping on!
We've been asked about the current situation is so here’s a brief update on our recent activities. The planning application was originally submitted in December 2020 and then set to go to the HBBC planning committee in March 2021 but due to Covid restrictions making these all online it has been delayed. We still do not know when it will be on the agenda, but we are preparing for our the ‘5 minutes of fame’ that we will get to speak on behalf of the community.
We continue to work on plans for developing the project including proposals for a community shop since our village one closed earlier this year. We have had some basic communication with the developers but nothing that suggests a serious desire to engage with us yet. This may change!
We’ve had pledges still gently trickling in so don’t forget you can still commit to buying shares in the Community Business ready for when we get the pub. Here’s the direct link again if you want to pledge and show your support:
We have been blown away by the commitments so far, which will really help show other funders that we are serious about the project.
It’s taking longer than we’d like to get our pub back but it’s fairly typical of these situations, as friends in other community pubs can confirm. It's been great to see The Lowther Arms and other groups succeed in their aims and look forward to joining them.
We remain resolved and look forward to the next step in our campaign to keep The Oddies at the heart of our community!
