SAVE THE ODDIES PUB’ - ROUND TWO ....URGENT ACTION REQUIRED

Updated: Feb 3, 2021

The vision for ‘The Oddies' – a pub at the heart of the community

We have continued to speak with the developers to push forward our plans to buy the pub. Our vision is to acquire the pub for the community and reopen with a focus on developing a thriving village amenity that serves all. We envisage a bar, restaurant, meeting space, gardens and outside space. The ideas shared by the community are at the heart of our plans.

What’s the current situation?

The developers have submitted a hybrid application for permission to turn pub into dwelling and further development of 25 houses which would include the pond field which is currently outside the village settlement boundary. With sufficient village objections, permission will be hard to get. As before, the change of use of the site has to be assessed on the basis of the harm or benefit to the community. The impact on the community and village heritage would be significant.

People have been reminiscing about Christmas celebrations in the past, such as carols on the village green followed by mulled wine and mince pies in the pub opposite. We are looking forward to hosting such community events in the future.

Ideas for a planning objection

You need to set out your objections clearly and include your address. A letter doesn’t need to be long, but it does need to explain the grounds on which you are objecting. Personal connections are good too! We have until December 22 to submit objections. The more we have the better so spread the word!

Submit online https://pa.hinckley-bosworth.gov.uk/online-applications/ or email to planning@hinckley-bosworth.gov.uk. Make sure to quote the planning application reference number: 20/01065/HYB and include your name and address.

For more information get in touch via the contact page or email secretary.theoddies@gmail.com if you want to know more about supporting the project.

You are pursuing a lost cause. Cartwrights have put in a planning application that will be accepted. Due to the incompetence of the Parish Council who had the opportunity to have a Parish plan in2014. Ex Councillor Christine Molyneux drew up a Parish Plan after working on it for a considerable amount of time. Th PC decided they could not afford the £2k cost of implemented. The pigeons have know come home to roost. I spent 7 1/2 years on a planning committee. I know how it works. The site is now a brownfield site. A brownfield site is one that has been built on. Cartwright have specified that they want 5 additional dwellings plus alterations to the Inn. plu…
